Armed Robber Chose Victim Intentionally, Police Say
Police are still investigating robbery at a Ramapo Brae condo unit last week
Police now believe the suspect in a residential robbery in the Ramapo Brae condo units last week intentionally chose the home he robbed.
“We believe this was a target specific incident,” Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli said Monday. “While alarming, the location was not selected at random.”
Friday afternoon, a Brae resident who came home during her lunch break found an intruder rummaging through her room who pointed a gun at her, Batelli said last week. According to police, an interview with the resident helped them deduce that his target was intentional.
Last week, police said the woman claimed she did not know the man who broke into her home. Police now say they are following up on investigative leads, but would not comment further on the incident, or why the armed robber may have intentionally chosen that house.
Police said they were looking for a Pakistani or Indian male in his 50’s last week after he ran from the Brae unit with at least one stolen item. Police said last week the man was looking for a specific item he didn’t find, but did not identify what that item was.
Police are continuing to investigate the robbery.
