Candidates Night Seeking Questions For Roth, DiGiulio, Marcus, VanDuren and Sbarra
Council candidates night is next Wednesday
The Mahwah Library Board of Trustees is less than a week away from staging the first of its two ‘Meet the Candidates’ nights. The events are designed, board trustees say, to give residents the opportunity to learn about local candidates’ backgrounds, and positions on Mahwah issues.
Next Wednesday, Oct. 10 starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Mahwah Senior Citizens Center, residents will be able to hear the five candidates running for three seats on the town council introduce themselves, and answer questions about current issues.
The questions are submitted by township residents to the library board via this link. The board is asking for more questions from residents.
So, if you want to know how the candidates feel about an issue you care about, ask it here. The board will choose questions from the submitted pool to pose to the candidates.

Here's a question; How are we supposed to trust the Library Board of Trustees with our questions regarding the socioeconomic future of our town , when they so wantonly wasted $240,000 of our money on a granite staircase in the midst of a recession?

Brilliant comment! Especially when coming from a such a supposedly well informed resident that needed to be "enlightened" as to where Stag Hill Road is. And exactly what is so devious about pointing out a specific fact and why do you call everyone that you disagree with or can't keep up with "Danny"?

ref: You obviously have a problem. Each time I posted a fact, you call me a name, tell me where to go or obfuscate the issue with some nonsensical comment. You want the status quo, I want accountability. You think municipal jobs are tenured, I don't even think the Supremes (not the singers) should be tenured. You think DiGuilo is the best thing since sliced bread, I think she's toast and for the reasons I stated. When you post, post a fact that at the very least can be debated. Don't ramble on with meaningless superlatives.

My question is the following: when Brian Campion said that the municipal court revenue increased by 70% from last year, why did not one person on the council pursue the reason? Lets see, 3 years ago the court revenue was $700,000. Then the the town decided not to give overtime to the police officers for showing up at court. Revenue went down to $350,000 for the past two years. Now the revenue is back up to almost $600,000 already. What changed? The police got their overtime back for going to court. Who's excited about their police force only doing their job if they get overtime?

I'm not certain there was a decision of paying overtime vs. not (that detail may be controlled by contract) - rather than whether police officers needed to make routine court appearances at all, or whether the majority of dockets could initially be handled by the proscecutor alone.

I may be wrong but I believe that if you're issued a citation, and you notify the court in advance that you intend to dispute the charge, the officer that issued the citation must appear in court as well and if he isn't, the citation is dismissed.
