Curbside Christmas Tree Pick-Up This January

DPW will be picking up large debris from Hurricane Sandy this month, too

For many in the township Wednesday is a back-to-reality type day. As kids head back to school, many people will begin taking down their holiday decorations and Christmas trees.

This January, the Mahwah DPW plans to enter Phase Three of its post-Sandy clean-up, and that phase includes Christmas trees.

According to Director Keith Hallissey, the department has worked on the immediate clean-up needs and leaf and brush pick-up, but has yet to pick up some of the larger items that fell with the storm.

Throughout January, the DPW plans to go back around the township to pick up the larger trees and stumps that fell around town during the storm, including one on the field on Airmount Road.

Residents can start putting Christmas trees curbside for pick-up this month during the large tree and debris pick-up phase, Hallissey said.

Why haven't the leaves been picked up in Fardale yet? We had one leaf pickup early in October and NO pickups since. With the plowed snow on the roads, the streets are becoming dangerous as many are now less than two lanes. Fardale is always Mahwah's forgotten area when it comes to town services.
