Expected Hike In Gas Prices For Labor Day Weekend

Cheapest gas in Mahwah is below the state average

If you’re planning on traveling this Labor Day weekend, you should plan on taking a few extra bucks. According to AAA estimates, the national average price for regular unleaded gasoline will be higher this Labor Day than it has been on the holiday any year before.

Over the past five years, the national average price has been $3.08 a gallon, according to AAA. Friday’s national average was $3.82.

Still, the travel company predicts 33 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more this Labor Day weekend. About 28.2 million of them will be traveling by car.

As of Saturday morning, the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in NJ was $3.68, AAA reported – that’s up three cents from a week ago and 20 cents from a month ago.

According to Mapquest’s gas gauge, the cheapest gas in Mahwah as of Friday night was at the Route 17 Pilot station, at $3.66.

If you are heading out on the roads this weekend, be sure to check Patch’s Commute tab before you go. It’ll help you compare local gas prices in order to find the cheapest one. It’ll also alert you to current traffic conditions on nearby roadways.

And, there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel. AAA predicts prices will drop after Labor Day and through September.
