Fire Department Squashes Dumpster Blaze
Cause of the fire is unknown, but may be related to the high temperatures, authorities say
Mahwah firefighters put out a “pretty involved” dumpster fire outside a Route 17 office complex Tuesday afternoon, Mahwah Assistant Fire Chief Brad Stio said.
Company 2 responded to a fire in a dumpster outside the office complex at the corner of Route 17 South and Corporate Drive at about 1:45 p.m. Stio said.
The dumpster had cardboard and some wooden crates in it, along with trash bags, he said.
The cause of the fire is unknown, Stio said. “It may have had something to do with the heat,” he said. The cause may have also been a discarded cigarette, Stio said.
The fire was contained to the dumpster, and nothing inside the complex was affected, Stio said.
The complex at 300 Route 17 houses offices, like Technical Solutions and consumer businesses, like Velocity Sports.
