Freeholders Ask Bergen Residents To Display Flags Thursday For Fallen Marine
County asks for one-day tribute.
All Bergen County residents should fly their American flags on Thursday in memory of a North Arlington marine killed in action earlier this month.
The Board of Freeholders has asked residents to display their flags as a sign of respect for Lance Corporal Osbrany Montes De Oca, a member of the II Marine Expeditionary Force who died in Afghanistan on February 10th.
Montes De Oca, who enlisted with his identical twin brother and an older brother in 2010, was killed in combat Helmand Province. He was a three-sport athlete at North Arlington High School.

War is horrible, but unfortunately it is sometimes the answer of last resort. Our current President originally came from a similar mindset as you, but even he has learned the realities of using the military to protect our interests.

And both of those brave men are going back.I think the jerks that decide to send our troops to war should lead them.

My prayers and condolences to the family of this brave warrior. May God watch over his brothers, who are still on active duty. The US Flag should be flying high over all Bergen County homes in his honor. Unfortuneatly, the Board of Freeholders cannot order the US Flag to half staff. The gesture of placing the flag at half-staff means that the Nation or the state mourns the death of a highly regarded National or state figure, hence only the President of the United States or the Governor of the state may order the Flag to be half-staffed in accordance with Flag Code section 7(m). Those individuals and agencies that usurp authority and display the flag at half-staff on inappropriate occasions are quickly eroding the honor and reverence accorded this solemn act

If you read the resolution it requests that all residents "display the American flag" I called the Freeholders and they told me to display at half staff however I do not feel that was the intent and I believe Albee is correct in his assessment
