A community group from Mahwah’s The Plant Church is hosting a dance fundraiser this Friday night to benefit the Center for Food Action.

“We wanted to come up with a new way to help the CFA,” Susie Wilson, one of the members putting the event together, said. “We do a lot of food drives, but we thought this would be a fun way to bring the community together and raise a lot of money for such a great organization.”

The dance party, for attendees 18 and older, starts at 8 p.m. Friday night. But, beginning an hour before, the community group will host a professional dancer to give a free Latin dance lesson to attendees. Then, guests will enjoy three hours of dancing, finger foods, and a silent auction. All of the proceeds raised will be donated to the CFA.

“Mahwah’s small businesses have been so helpful,” Wilson said. “They’ve donated things that we can use at the party, and items we will be auctioning off.” According to Wilson, help from the community is what made the dance possible. “The Boe family on Halifax Road actually are donating the reception room of their home for us to have the party. Everyone planning this and helping has been so wonderful. We are really hoping to have a lot of people attend.”
