Updated: Tropical Storm Irene Moves North

Flood watch continues; 'locally damaging winds' possible

Updated at 1:!5 p.m.

Tropical Storm Irene is north of this area but "locally damaging winds" could continue into this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Moderate to major river flooding is expected to continue into tonight. Flooding from poor drainage "will gradually subside through this afternoon," the weather service said.

Irene's center was about 40 miles north-northeast of New York City--over the Hudson Rivery Valley--at noon.

The weather service said this area has received a total of 4 to 12 inches of rain. Not much more rain is expected.

Bergen County, and surrounding areas, remains under a tropical storm warning and a flood watch.
