Lake Henry Clean Up Saturday
Beautification Committee looking for volunteers to help clean up Mahwah
This Saturday, Mahwah’s Beautification Committee is asking for residents’ help to clean up Continental Soldiers Field and Lake Henry.
The annual community clean up day asks residents to come to the park from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., ready to clean garbage and other debris that has collected in the area over the winter. Water, gloves, pickers and bags will be provided to the volunteers, and a free lunch will be served after the clean up.
According to Beautification Committee Chair Lisa DiGiulio, “we usually have about 40 people come to help us clean. One year, we had about 75, which was wonderful. We’d love it if that many people showed up this year.”
In addition to residents who want to help, many of the volunteers come from the township’s Boy and Girl Scout troops, DiGiulio said. “It is amazing how hard these kids work to help clean up the town,” she said. “They don’t give up, and they are such a tremendous help every year.”
DiGiulio said letters are available for kids who want to use the volunteer hours to count toward a requirement.
