Letter To The Editor: Voting For Bill Laforet

Election is November 8

My fellow Mahwah residents:

I hope that you will take just a few moments to consider this letter. My name is Daniel Weixeldorfer and I write to urge you to support BILL LAFORET FOR MAYOR on November 8th.

Mahwah needs BILL LAFORET as he is the only candidate for mayor committed to the values of service above self. If your values find it unacceptable for our other mayoral candidates to trade one of your weekly trash collections(which saved Mahwah taxpayers $60,000) for their own personal medical benefits(which costs Mahwah taxpayer $60,000) then BILL LAFORET is your only choice for mayor. If your values are equally offended by our other candidates’ refusal to adhere to the well advertised state pension and benefits reforms then BILL LAFORET is your only choice for mayor.

Can your finances tolerate another 26% increase in taxes and another 50% increase in water rates?  If not, it is time for a change. The leadership of our other mayoral candidates on the proposed mall development has already led us into court and has caused tension among the citizenry.  The business approach of BILL LAFORET will ensure that the will of the people is reflected on this important issue.

Mahwah’s challenges are no different than those of our country, State and other local governments. We are living in difficult and financially challenging times. Our politicians have failed us. Over the next week you will receive a barrage of smears, endorsements from political cronies and claims of experience typical of desperate politicians. Tell these politicians that we have had enough of their “experience” and vote them out!! It is time for a seasoned business person with a proven commitment to service to Mahwah and rejection of the politics of personal gain.

These are my values, those of BILL LAFORET and hopefully yours. These are the values that we must demand from all of our public servants. On November 8th I urge you to show the politicians that we have had enough and vote for the values of service above self exemplified by our dedicated volunteers and BILL LAFORET.

VOTE COLUMN 2 ON NOVEMBER 8TH. VOTE BILL LAFORET for MAYOR.

Sincerely,

Daniel J. Weixeldorfer

Mahwah Resident/Business Owner

Dear Mr. Weixeldorfer, If Bill cares so much about this town, then why has he missed so many town municipal events and candidate events? As a sitting member of the Board of Adjustments why was he not in attendance on 10-19-2011. As a candidate for Mayor why did he not show at the Mahwah Republican Club at the Senior Center on 10-3-2011. As a candidate for Mayor why did he not attend last weeks Town Council meeting. All other candidates for office were in attendance at this meeting. It seems that all other candidates are concerned and want to know what's happening with the town. Why wasn't he in attendance last night at the Mahwah Tea Party open candidate debate? Also, I find a lot of your facts either incomplete and/or inaccurate. We would like to see Bill debate these facts with the other candidates. I am sure that John DaPuzzo is very happy to discuss these facts openly in public with Bill Laforet. When will Mr. Laforet be available to have this open public dialog? Sincerely, -Bob Lockwood

Mr. Weixeldorfer,Im sure you have your reasons for backing Mr. Laforet but Mr. Laforet is commiting political suicide by hiding from the people that might listen to him,if he wants to be a 24 hour Mayor than you have to be a 24 hour candidate,oh and by the way the smearing has already started with Mr. Laforets ads in local news papers,oh and one other thing did you not loose running for the council seat in Mahwah

The Republican club debate was a "set up" debate by the tight "Mahwah cronie club" with minimal public presence other than "plants" in audience and the Tea Party was a "set up" by Hermansen's clan with "planted" participants. Resident's don't need bullying and dirty politics as has been controlled by the same select "good ol boy" group behind the scenes in town for many years. If you want answers on issues in genuine forum “Robert” "Ted" "bullmetric", Allan Kidd /John Roth, people can call the candidates or stop by and see them at their work or business at least those candidates that are in town and accessible. Political Suicide....C'Mon that would be more like having Allan Kidd as one of your biggest supporter's and operatives, can anyone hear "Crazy Train" playing.....

Robert, right you are! He did lose the Council race and guess what his main issue then was? Council and Mayor benefits. And now he and Laforet have served it up again as a core issue of Team Laforet. New Ideas? Looks like a re-tread.

I have to say that I don't understand why for years no one wanted a public service job, but my how that has changed. In fact township employees were almost looked down upon while they were contributing monies to be invested in their future and working days on end through snowstorms or hurricanes, or cleaning the parks that your children so enjoy. However all of the sudden since corporate jobs aren't so easy to come by and greed has left some complaining about hard working blue collar employees having a future just because theirs has disappeared overnight... all of the sudden it's time to attack the blue collar workers and what they have worked for. Just because your standards of living have changed it doesn't give you the green light to try to take away from what others have worked so hard for while making lower salaries for years. Just remember everything is relative if you make alot of money you can afford to invest in your own future if you don't then you naturally invest in the pension system key word being "invest" it's not free money. So therefore will I be voting for Bill absolutely not....it's obvious that he wants to run our town like a small business not like a town should be run. I can back this up with one question what kinds of benefits and insurance opportunities does he offer his employees? Maybe you should all look at that before you cast your vote!!! Sometimes underlying messages come out much clearer than candidates think...you can thank Dan for that Bill

I, personally, am really tired of the down and dirty tactics of the Dapuzzo team of old cronies of last year and again this year. If they were respectable people they would deal with the public and their running oppositions with out lies, smear stories, belittlement of the other contenders and stick to his real agenda of the Mall and self serving medical benefits for himself, not to mention his wife's PART TIME job of $60,000-$70,000, plus $5000.for Mahwah day and her full medical benefits, dental and eyes. They are taking more than they're giving....Bill, you've been a generous gentleman to the town, with quiet glory...you"ve got my vote! You're right Dan , it was a set-up to be smeared....glad Bill didn"t participate..

Bill doesn't have any experience in government. Budgets and contracts don't work the same way they do in private sector. Also Bill is for retail at Crossroads and has said so back in June. Building a Mall would ruin our town. Lisa has the right experience. LaForet and DaPuzzo have some kind of vendetta going on. They were calling each other liars at a council meeting. Lisa is the only one running a clean campaign and has the integrity to stand on her own merits rather than knocking her opponents. But I agree with what you wrote about Dapuzzo, just don't think Bill has enough experience yet.

Plus the fact that she got her job while he was on the Town Council and no one knew that there was a position available,. It was not posted in the newspapers as all jobs are required to and there are no other resumes other than hers !!!! The job was created specifically for her because there were no other applicants. From the times he got his son not to serve suspension in high school to his wifes job, I would say that we dont need someone who looks out for their own !!!!

Give it a rest Jackie. Want down and dirty, read all of Bill's ads and mailings. Once you get by the typos in each of them there is nothing but nasty attack ads. Deal with the public??? Bill ducked the T Party Republican Club nights because questions were asked and refused to show up for the library candidates night unless questions were not permitted..... CONFIRMEDby library bd! He's been howling about $29K benefit packages that actually cost $17K whoops? Team typos, bad math and debate duckers should not be Mayor. Hope THE TRUTH start posting again or did you miss those?

Dear Mr. Weixeldorfer, We are still left with two very important issues; (1) the incompleteness of your tax increase claim and (2) the lack of attendance of Mr. Laforet at town meetings and candidate events. If Mr. Laforet was truly concerned about Mahwah town issues he would have to address the fact that under the management of Mr. DaPuzzo, the cost base of the town has been reduced significantly. This looks like the kind of person you are looking for. The increase to our taxes is driven by the changes happening at the state level. Frankly, if Mr. Laforet's concern is our taxes, then he is running for the wrong office. He frankly should be running for state office. His signs and advertisements of 26% increase is completely misleading because it doesn't specify the root cause of the increases. It is a true misrepresentation of what is happening at our local town level. Sincerely, -Bob Lockwood

Do these changes at state level single out Mahwah. If Mahwah's tax increases stand out against neighboring towns and all the towns suffer similar "revenue" declines - then I would be curious to figure out what makes Mahwah unique on the expense end of things?

Dan, Nice pix above of the 26% sign. Is that in front of the Ramapo Centre where the property owner has taken it down twice because it was done without permission? Or maybe it's in front of Living the Dream Horse Stables? The internet ad says the stables are at 257 Mtn View in Mahwah. Funny thats the address of your condo too? When are you going to stop with the scams.

I hear a lot of boasts and promises- but the real issue is selecting a Mayor with integrity, trust and putting the needs of the all the town’s residents first. I think that just eliminated one of the candidates. Communication is key to the process of what to target and how to accomplish it. Lisa has been a valuable civil servant for 23 years with integrity and has not resorted to maligning her opponents to gain a vote. Lisa decided it was time to run because of what John demonstrated since he was appointed Mayor. Bill may feel the same way? He seems to be a nice guy. After he learns more about how municipal government functions differently from private enterprise he will be comfortable meeting openly with the people. I wish him luck in the future after he gets prepared. Just as he wouldn’t let a an inexperienced mechanic work on the school bus brakes- but in time he may be ready. However, today we are fortunate that Lisa is running for Mayor to represent the residents, heed their concerns and not held back by the current clique that has taken control.

When what really happened was. The sign really bothered the property owner who is sick and tired of team Laforet illegally posting signs on his property. Nice try Dan. Robert here is a good lesson for you. If you have the town behind you, like Bill Laforet does, you get alot of donations from the residents who don't like what they see going on in town.....Then you take that money and buy ad space, mailings, ect. to make all the residents aware of the issues....When you don't have the town behind you you have to call the County Freeholder and ask him to spend his campaign money on your election......People should ask themselves why would the County Freeholder want to spend his campaign money on the election of Mr Dapuzzo???

I would think that going to non-partisan meetings, like the Library, Ambulance Corps etc. and providing his person phone number to answer any questions, gives everyone a chance to ask their question.

Participating in events that are designed to celebrate the two Republicans is probably not the right forum for a non-partisan discussion on township issues. (Don't know if that's the reason, but that's how I would think of it.)

Daniel Weixeldorfer

9:20 am on Saturday, November 5, 2011

Robert, Mr Laforet is the only candidate that puts his personal phone number in his ads in the paper and mailing. Voters have been calling him and asking any questions they might have. Its a shame that Mr DaPuzzo tried to make the Library Board and Bill look bad at their " MEET THE CANDIDATE NIGHT" notice it was not called DEBATE? If anyone believes what Mr DaPuzzo said was true that Bill asked to have the format changed or wouldn't he would not go when the fact is it was the other way around and I can prove it. Call John Speich up and ask him he sits on the Library Board....Call Sam Alderiso up He sits on the Library Board...Call the Head of the Board. They all will tell you the truth. It comes down to this deperate politicians will do deperate things to win. You know as well as I do in the next 48 hours right before the election a story will surface about Bill Laforet and postings will appear alone with emails from some fake email address like "CONCERNED CITIZENS FOR MAHWAH" and this fake group will spread some horrible rumor about Bill Laforet. I think the voters in Mahwah will see thru it and remember its the same old tricks they use every year to try and sway a few voters....very very sad that it comes down to that. Thats why this town need new leadership.

If Mr DaPuzzo and his so called "MACHINE" behind him thought that he was going to win this election they wouldn't need to look for the 4th quarter hail mary play. DaPuzzo will tip his hand that he is even more in trouble then people think in this race by resorting to having his supporters try and float out rummors and storys with only 2 days before the election. I'm just warning the readers that the " CONCERNED CITIZENS OF MAHWAH" will show there ugly heads again to try and make someone change their vote for Bill... I hope it doesn't happen....but I doubt it. This is why the country is tired of polititians and there tactics.

The 1st thing you can do is to tell the truth to the people. I just received an e-mail stating that Mr. Laforet joined the Republican Club in May of 2011. He did not tell them though that he was a registered Democrat and has been one since 1992 and voted in June 2011 primary not less than a month after him joining the Republican Club. Now I ask you why would a man who is running for Mayor of Mahwah tell everyone he is a Republican when he really is a Democrat. Just The truth Billy just the truth. The truth will set you free. Nothing wrong with being a Democrat unless you are telling everyone that your a Republican. Wonder how the Democrats in this town will feel about this. I received all the collateral the John DaPuzzo and his team put in all our front doors yesterday. I saw the same paid-for-by-the-developer postcard in this packet which, says "vote for the mall at crosswords" that was sent to most of us I assume last. week. And, I thought why is John Dapuzzo so open about his support for the mall when he knows that so many people were upset with his handling of the mall?
And, then I realized that he knows he can't win against Bill so he wants Lisa to win with her staunch anti-mall positioning. Because he will get Lisa's seat on the council then and he will have what he figures is his majority to push through whatever he wants -- including the mall. I of course don't know this -- but that feels really right to me.

The irony might be -- if Lisa wins the mayoral race her supporters lose big time.

Does it bother anyone else that John DaPazzo is pushing his relationship with the Republicans. Why do the Republicans want John to win? What's in it for them?
I would love to hear what others think on this. Please only respond if you are willing to use your full name though. I can't stand this hiding behind fake names.

Kristi, Susan and Mr C I couldn't agree with you more. This election is more about removing Mr DaPuzzo from any postion of power in Mahwah then just voting for a Mayor without thinking what the coucil will look like after this election.

The DaPuzzo family has a nice gig both part time workers and we the taxpayers pay for their families healthcare. But he saves the fountain $$$ on benefits. So I guess managing the Fountain Spa full time and their 300 employees and 15 million budget can't handle the burden of his healthcare but Mahwah can.

Let's get the both dapuzzos off our health care rolls. That alone will save the taxpayers a lot.

After reading these posts, I've come to the conclusion that you all have WAY too much time on your hands. I just thought I'd take a look at the Patch since my neighbor said it was a nice site with good local information. I've only been in Mahwah for 15 years, but I've never even considered the Mayoral position to be of any importance. I work in NYC, I love Mahwah, but voting for the town Mayor is VERY low on my to do list. And to be honest, I don't think anything has really changed all that much since Dwork was in office. Fardale seems to be the same! I mean come on, Mayor of Mahwah, LOL? Is it really worth all of this mudslinging? I make a good living, I work hard day in and day out and while I applaud those who give their time for civic duties, is all of this garbage really worth it?

Thomas, that a healthy perspective.

While there is nothing wrong with touting the qualities of whichever friend/candidate you choose to support, it's hard to watch how desperate some folks appear to be for these positions that they feel justified in anonymously belitteling or slandering their opponent(s) for months at time.

Knowing all the 3 mayoral candidates, I am quite comfortable that each has honest intentions of doing "right" by the town - they just might go about it in different ways, and weigh differently the sometimes conflicting dual responsibilities of acting in the best interest of the town vs. representing the will of its residents.

Well, another low on the dapuzzo side. Beside lying
about one of candidates, seriously, they have the
Nerve to post a "vote for the mall, lower taxes" outside one of the polling places....strictly forbidden!

There is an Anti-Mall campaign poster within 47 feet of of the entrance to District #1 polling location - not sure if it's of any real consequence. It's been there all day. Campaingn signs are supposed to be no closer than 100 feet from the polling location. Is it suppose to be 100 feet from the parking entrance? or 100 feet from the building? or 100 feet from the door? I have a couple of pictures if you'd like them. I can e-mail them or upload them. Just let me know.
