Longtime Mahwah Volunteer Nick Savino Dies
Savino was recently honored for his over 40 years of service on the township's Zoning Board of Adjustment
Longtime Mahwah resident and volunteer Nick Savino died Saturday. He was 79.

Beloved husband of Geraldine Savino (nee Burgio) for 56 years. Loving father of Lynn M. Savino of Mahwah, Dona Savino of Suffern, NY and William J. Savino of Mahwah. Adored grandfather of Geriyn. Cherished brother-in-law of Jay and Sue Burgio and Elizabeth Hansen. Dear brother of Michelle Caron. Dear uncle of Christopher, Larry and wife Nataly and Douglas Burgio; Nick and Matt Savino, Liz and husband Dave Insull and Michelle O'Connor.
Nicholas was a 4 year US Navy Veteran. He graduated from Fordham University and was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge 1941, Mahwah VFW Post 7124 and American Legion Post 0174. He was a certified Tax Assessor and NJ Licensed Public Accountant. Nicholas served as a Legislative Aid to State Senator Garrett Hagedorn. He was a member of the Mahwah Zoning Board for over 40 years and President of the Mahwah Republican Club. Nicholas served as the Chief Financial Officer of Mahwah from 1973-1978 and was Chairman of the Revaluation Committee 1974 - 1975. Nicolas retired as the Corporate Tax Manager of American Cyanamid. He was on the Sewer Assessment Board in 1982 and the I-287 Committee 1983-1984.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey, NJ. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception RC Church in Mahwah. Entombment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah.
