The Mahwah Fire Department softball team is advancing to a semi-final game after a nail-biting 26-25 win over the team from the Fair Lawn Fire Department in a playoff game Sunday morning.

The game, held at Commodore Perry Field in Mahwah, was close the whole way through, Mahwah coach Tony Simonelli said. The team is made up of Mahwah firefighters, police officers, and EMS members. During the regular season of the Bergen Firemen’s Softball League, team Mahwah finished in second place with an 8-2 record.

The game against Fair Lawn was a rematch, as one of their two regular-season losses was to the FLFD.

The team now advances to a semi-final game against Hawthorne next Sunday at Commodore Perry.
