Mahwah Schools Now Looking For Three New Principals
Betsy Ross Elementary School Principal Catherine Bennett is retiring at the end of the school year
At Wednesday night’s Board of Education meeting, the Board accepted the resignation request from Betsy Ross Principal Catherine Bennett, who will be retiring at the end of this year after 37 years of working in the district.
Mahwah’s Assistant Superintendent Janet Donohue and several Board members expressed their appreciation for the work Bennett has done throughout her years with the district as a gifted and talented teacher, program coordinator, supervisor, and the principal of Betsy Ross.
“She really was responsible for bringing Responsive Classroom to the district,” Donohue pointed out.
“She will be sorely missed.”
“We have advertised for the positions, and we are getting a good response,” Superintendent Dr. Charles Montesano said.
“We will be looking for all three at once, finding the top three out of our pool of applicants, and then deciding which fits best for each position,” he explained.
Montesano noted that this year, since he will also be retiring, he will be a member of the initial screening committee for applicants, and Donohue will conduct final interviews.
Donohue noted that many other positions, including members of the child study team and long-term substitutes, are also open in the district.
