This Sunday at 8 p.m., residents can watch and vote for one of Mahwah’s own on a TV singing competition. Mahwah High School student Sam Waxenbaum will appear on “MSG Varsity’s Talent Show” this Sunday, April 29 at 8 p.m. on MSG Varsity, Cablevision’s iO TV Channel 14.
The competition showcases 32 high school acts from the tri-state area. Waxenbaum will sing Sunday night in an attempt to get the most viewer votes. The top vote getters will win a two-day professional studio experience.
According to Waxenbaum, who has been involved with singing groups, the theater department and other performance acts throughout his high school career, he was “nervous to try out for the Talent Show. I’d never done anything like that before.”
The atmosphere at the taping was “so nice, and helpful. I really enjoyed it,” he said.
Though the singer couldn’t divulge details about what he will sing on Sunday night’s episode, he said he really enjoyed the song. “It was a great experience,” Waxenbaum said.
The MHS senior said he originally tried out because he thought it’d be a fun, new experience during the last few weeks of his final year of high school. However, Waxenbaum said his performance turned into something bigger.
“I’ve lived in Mahwah all my life, and I love it here. I feel like wherever I go, people don’t really know what Mahwah is. So, I hope by doing this, I can show people what we have here,” Waxenbaum said.
His first performance will air Sunday night at 8 p.m. on MSG Varsity. Viewers can vote for Sam’s performance online after the show, at http://www.msgvarsity.com/talent-show.
