Two Mahwah high schoolers have been recognized for some outstanding academic accomplishments, MHS announced this week.

Senior Peter Xiong has been named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. Xiong scored among the top 15,000 out of millions of students who took the October 2011 PSAT exam, the high school announced Tuesday. From this group of 15,000 students, 8,200 will receive scholarship money.

MHS also announced Tuesday that another of the school’s seniors was recently honored for her all around academic achievements:

Rebecca Damante of Mahwah High School has been recognized as a 2012-2013 Discus Awards Finalist for her achievements in the areas of Academics, Community Service, and Work. The Discus Awards is a national high school recognition program that honors all-around high school students who excel in three of ten key attributes. Finalists are considered for multiple college scholarships provided by Discus Awards partners. Learn more about Rebecca and other Discus Awards Finalists on the program’s website at www.DiscusAwards.com/winners.

I'm very happy to see that hard work outside the limelights and academic achievements are paying off. We never quite celebrate our individual champions enough!

Congratulations -- and much success in your college careers.
