Man Who Stole $1.9 Million To Feed Online Gambling Sentenced

Daniel J. Trolaro of Oakland sentenced to six years for defrauding clients of more than $1.9 million

 

A former insurance agent who fed his online gambling by stealing nearly $2 million from his clients was sentenced Friday to six years in state prison.

Daniel J. Trolaro, 35, of Oakland, pleaded guilty on July 6 to second-degree theft, admitting that he stole $1,918,000 from nine clients between June 2008 and Feb. 2010. Trolaro, an insurance broker, securities dealer and financial planner for Prudential Insurance in East Hanover, was supppsed to invest the money, but instead "used the majority of the money for online gambling," Attorney General Paula T. Dow said in a release.

The amounts ranged from $46,000 to $910,000.

Prudential has repaid the victims who sought restitution.
