Marine Moms Plan Rockland Boulder Fundraiser

Group is also walking in Memorial Dy Parade Monday

Each year, Memorial Day marks a spirit of remembrance that one group in Mahwah feels everyday.

The Mahwah Marine Moms and North Jersey Military Moms, a township-based charity organization that gathers, wraps and ships care packages to soldiers fighting overseas, work closely with Mahwah’s VFW to keep soldiers of the past and present on residents’ minds. Monday, the group will march in Mahwah’s annual Memorial Day Parade.

This summer, the group will be hosting several fundraising efforts to support our troops; it’s currently selling advance tickets to the Rockland Boulders game on July 21. “We do a lot of small events to raise money, but this is a big one,” Moms founder and President Terry Wendrychowicz said. “This is the first time that we’ve had a fundraiser like this.

The team has a stack of tickets to the Boulders’ July game against the Worcester Tornadoes. If the MMM can sell at least 250 tickets, the Boulders will donate a portion of each sale to the Moms. According to organizers, money collected is used mostly to cover shipping costs. So far this year, the Moms have spent over $3,000 on shipping over 90 cases to US troops.

“The list of people we need to ship to is enormous, and it just keeps growing,” Wendrychowicz said. “Now that we are more established and becoming more well-known, we are getting a lot more requests for packages. That’s how it works, you make connections with people and after a while, the circle of people you are able to have an impact on also grows.”

The Boulders game will be a fun, family-friendly event, she said. In addition to the game, those in the stands are invited to wear red, white and blue to display their patriotism, and expect fireworks over the Boulders’ new stadium the night of the game. The Moms will be on hand selling their Patriotic Hearts and collecting donations.

Tickets for the game are $14 each, and children under 3 are free.

“We are so happy that this can be a fun, affordable night out for Mahwah families,” Wendrychowicz said. “Taking the kids to a ball game in New York now is ridiculously expensive. This is a great alternative in our own backyard.”

Those interested in the event can find out more information or purchase tickets at the Rockland Boulders website, or by emailing mahwahmarinemoms@yahoo.com.

Get your tickets soon, the Moms need to sell them all by June 21, one month before the actual game.

I have nothing but GREAT things to say about Mahwah Marine Moms after working with their group during my last 8 years at Konica Minolta. If you are not familiar with their work, I would highly recommend taking the time to visit their Website and learn about their tireless efforts to provide "a little bit of home" to the brave men and women serving our country - both past and present.

While I probably cannot make the parade today... I will be sure to join everyone at the Boulders game in July.

May everyone have a great day today, and may God continue to bless America and the brave souls of our military branches.

If you ever had a son or daughter deployed you know what I am talking about. You will go broke sending packages. There are so many things that we take for granted that are in short supply for soldiers. Personal hygene products are hit or miss. Underwear, acne creme, foot powder, athletes foot, jock itch, eye drops, itch creams not easy to find all the time. And when you do send the stuff it gets shared. There are also a lot of loners in the military no family, friends sending them anything ever.
The Marine Moms are doing a great service.
