MEVO Park Cleanup Sunday

Spring Kickoff volunteer event is at the Ramapo Reservation

MEVO, the Mahwah Environmental Volunteers Organization, is asking for the community's help to kick off its spring cleaning season. The volunteer group, which started at Mahwah High School in 2008 and has since expanded to include members of all ages, is planning a clean up this Sunday.

According to MEVO's Emma Spett, the group will be planting native species of trees and shrubs on unused hiking trails at the Ramapo Reservation in order to rehabilitate it, as well as perform a trash clean up along the Ramapo River. "We are very excited about this event, both from the volunteering aspect, as well as the impact it will have on the natural environment," she said. "Of course, we are hoping to garner as much support as possible."

The event will run from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sunday at the Ramapo Reservation in Mahwah. No RSVP is necessary, but find out more information about the event at the MEVO Facebook page.

Is there a way to try to get along the Ramapo River cleaned up? Like a day for that? Seeing refridgerators, toys, etc going down Rt 202 is kind of wrong. Also by Rt 202 and Brook/Brakeshoe?
