Next Year's School Calendar Allows For An Extra Snow Day, If Needed

School Board approves 2011-2012 calendar

The Mahwah Board of Education has approved the 2011-2012 school calendar, and posted the final version on the district website.

A topic of discussion over the past two board meetings, the calendar allows for more snow days than this year’s did, a reaction to the number of weather events that affected the schools this year.

The calendar again has four snow days scheduled in, as it did this year, however, an extra day off is built in, so that in the event of five snow days, that will be the first day added back into the instructional calendar.

That extra day is Monday, April 9, which is scheduled in as the final day of Spring Break. If the district needs to use five snow days, this will be the first day put back into the calendar.

Easter is Apr. 8.

According to the calendar, if more days need to be added after that, school will be held on Thursday Apr. 5 and then Wednesday Apr. 4.

The calendar says, “Under extreme conditions of weather, it may also be necessary to conduct school on the remainder of the spring recess. However, without compromising the safety of students or staff, we will make every effort to maintain the full week for spring recess.”

The first day of school will be after Labor Day, September 7, and the high school’s graduation will be June 19, 2012.
