O&R: Power Restoration From "Freak Fall Snowstorm" Will Last All Week

About 2,500 without power Sunday morning

As of 5:20 a.m. Sunday, Orange and Rockland was reporting nearly 2,500 residences in Mahwah were without power. The restoration status is listed as “pending.”

Saturday evening, O&R posted a Storm Emergency Advisory, announcing that somewhere between 75 and 100,000 of its customers are expected to be without power as a result of the storm. The release said O&R crews will be working with tree cutters and will be “tapping its mutual aid network of utilities outside of the freak fall snowstorm's path for additional support.”

“Full scale restoration efforts” were suspended Saturday as a result of treacherous road conditions and falling trees, the advisory said. Once restoration efforts begin again, they are expected to last throughout the week.

Downed lines or trees on top of wires can be reported to the utility by calling 1-877-434-4100.

No more snow is expected in the forecast, however the National Weather Service did release a special weather statement for Mahwah, saying that chilly temperatures Sunday morning could lead to freezing and slick road conditions. Sunday’s forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 48 degrees.

If they would only put the power lines underground, we would not keep having these problems.

Who would pay for this so called "put the power lines underground?". Us O&R customers of course! We live in Mahwah, not NYC.

Of course we would have to pay for it. We would be the ones to benefit from it--in convenience and safety. Over the long run it would pay for itself--you wouldn't need generators or other safety equipment to keep your power on in bad weather. Plus, it would be aesthetically more pleasing in all our neighborhoods than the spaghetti mess in the sky.
