Oktoberfest Celebration Saturday

Proceeds from the event go to the CAPS Cares Foundation, which benefits Autism programs in local schools

This weekend, a charity version of an Oktoberfest celebration is coming to Mahwah.

CAPS Cares is a non-profit that supports special programs for students with autism in Bergen and Rockland County school districts. The all-volunteer group has hosted fundraisers throughout the region since its founding in 2010. Over the past two years, the organization has purchased iPads, dvd players, specialized classroom supplies, small appliances, OT/PT/Speech therapy materials, a mobile listening cart, water slide and other recreational toys, community outings and class trips, laminating equipment and more for local Autism programs.

According to Mary Fox, one of the CAPS Cares volunteers, the Oktoberfest fundraiser, happening Saturday afternoon at the Mason Jar, is a great opportunity to increase community awareness about the charity, and the education options for local kids and teens with autism.

“We work with four school districts so far, but we reach kids from a lot of different communities who get bused in from their home districts for these special programs,” she said. “And, we’re hoping to expand to more schools so that we can provide them with the technology, equipment and support they need.”

And, Oktoberfest has some great food and entertainment on tap. Bratwurst, Hamburgers and hot dogs, sausage and peppers, chicken fingers and baked ziti are all on the menu. Plus, guests can take part in raffles, compete in a hot dog eating contest and listen to the Mighty Spectrum Band perform live.
