Park Gets New Sign Touting Mahwah’s Travel Softball Champs
Over the past six years, the township has produced nine championship teams of all different age groups
Whenever locals visit Commodore Perry Field, they will be reminded of the accomplishments of six years of Mahwah girls travel softball teams.
The softball commissioner gathered with families in the area Sunday afternoon to mount a sign to honor the 2012 14u Mahwah Travel Team, as well as all past championships. Since 2006, Mahwah has had nine championship softball teams.
“The girls [in Mahwah] are just really dedicated to the sport,” commissioner Lee Ehlermann said. “They go the extra mile, and it’s made the program really strong.”
Ehlermann said he hopes whenever locals are in the park, they will see the sign and acknowledge the hard work, and accomplishment, the girls made.
Their success, and the new banner recognizing it, “are good things for Mahwah,” he said. “And we’re excited, because we are getting ready to add another championship to the sign after this season.”
Many of the girls who helped contribute to the nine wins, and their families, were at a mounting ceremony Sunday.
