Friends, family members and firefighters gathered Sunday to honor the memory of Patrick Roe, a Mahwah fire lieutenant who died tragically in 2005.

The first annual Patrick Roe Memorial Poker Run raised money for a scholarship fund in Roe's name. Each year, the fund awards scholarships to Mahwah students in Roe's honor.

Jessica & Chris, I would personnally like to Thank You both for the wonderful coverage that you gave to the Mahwah F.D. Co#2 1st Annual Patrick L. Roe Poker Run this past weekend. Jessica, your article explained the purpose of the Run and what the scholarship was all about. Sometimes when there is a event for a charity in honor of someone who never get to know anything about the person. In all your coverage, wether it was the baskeball games or now the poker run, your readers got to know alittle bit about the man whose name is attached to the event. And Chis,it was nice to meet you on Sunday. You came up and introduced yourself to me and I thought that was very nice. Your pictures are great!!! This turned into our most successful fundraiser yet!!So Mahwah FD Co#2 is looking forward to hosting the 2nd Annual Patrick L Roe Scholarship Poker Run again next year. This is such a two-sided sword for us. On one hand we are thrilled at how successful the fundraisers have been and also for the students that have benefited with the help of the scholarship,BUT then the reason why this is all taking place is because we have lost our son and Mike has lost his brother. This is the pain with which we deal with every day. SO once again our thanks for the great coverage and we hope that you will be following us once again next year.

Jean, Ray and Mike -- Thank YOU so much for inviting us to be there. I did not have the pleasure of meeting Patrick, but judging by the outpouring of support from people who miss him, he must have been a really special guy. I'm glad the fundraiser went so well, we'll be happy to be there in the future.
