Ridge Road Construction Closures Begin Thursday

Access to the school buildings, library and CFA will be impacted

Road construction and repaving on Ridge Road is set to begin Thursday, and drivers should anticipate limited access to and through the roadway, Mahwah Police Captain Robert Sinnaeve said in an announcement Wednesday.

Ridge Road, between Lydia Lane and West Ramapo Avenue, will be closed to thru traffic. Access to the public library, the four Mahwah schools on Ridge Road, and the Center for Food Action will be limited to local traffic only during the closures, and "delays to reach those locations should be expected," Sinnaeve said.

Impacts to those buildings may not be too great, as the library is closed through Labor Day for re-carpeting, and the schools are not in session until September.

This week, Ridge Road will be closed for road milling at the following times:

  • Thursday, 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Though the road closures will continue into next week during the paving of the road, township engineer Mike Kelly said at a town council meeting earlier this summer that all roadwork would be finished by the time school starts.

According to Sinnaeve, the road is scheduled to be closed Monday and Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but closures should not last beyond Tuesday.

The repaving of Ridge Road is one of the major components of the township's 2012 Roads Program.

Jessica,I believe there is a small mistake in this article, should it not read "schools are not in session until September" not November?

Lori and Regenbogen -- I just double checked with the PD. Access to schools will be allowed, but if you need to travel there for sports or another activity, definitely give yourself some extra time to get there. Expect delays to get through.

Great idea --- but one would have thought --- early in the summer would have been a better time to start this project! It is definately needed and we look forward to a better roadway in front of all the schools BUT 2 weeks prior to school was just bad planning. Schools are open, events are scheduled and every fall team is practicing --- some with double sessions. CRA-ZY!

Wonder why the timing coincided with 2 weeks before school? In any case, I am happy this will FINALLY be done!
