Ridge Roadwork Not Expected To Impact Back-To-School Traffic

But, repaving will shut the road down toward the end of the summer

Roadwork on Ridge Road should not affect back-to-school driving, Township Engineer Mike Kelly said at a town council meeting last week.

The repaving of Ridge Road, which houses four of the Mahwah School District’s six schools and the Public Library, is the major component of the township’s 2012 Roads Program.

Preparatory and concrete work should start on the road by the end of this week, Kelly said. The road should remain open to traffic during this process, which should take about a week or so, he said.

The road will, however, be closed to thru traffic during the actual repaving period, which should take place the week or two before school is back in session. According to Kelly, the stretch of Ridge Road between Lydia Lane and West Ramapo Ave. will be shut for about a week toward the end of August.

The contractor “assured us he will have no problem finishing [the repaving] before school opens,” Kelly said.

The first day of the 2012-2013 school year is Wednesday, September 5.

It's about time! With the taxes we pay, that road should have been repaved 2 yrs ago!

Happy to hear this. Been waiting for this for too long. Wonder when Macarthur Blvd will be fixed. This road is another one in need of repair. Lots of businesses in this area. It's not in the big 7 list.

Road resurfacing is always a good thing as far as a smoother rides and less damage to your car, but it brings up another concern. People tend to drive a little FAST on a freshly repaved road and Ridge "which houses four of the Mahwah School District’s six schools and the Public Library", I hope this does not become a problem. Hopefully our fine Police Department will have a strong presents when the schools let out for the day.

Yeah!!! Now I won't have to get my tires realigned every few months from all the pot holes. The cars takes a beating on Ridge Road, especially if you travel on it a couple times per day.
