Rotary Club Sponsors Schools' Special Services Rainbow Day

Children from Franklin Lakes, Oakland, Mahwah, Glen Rock, Ramsey, Ho-Ho-Kus and Upper Saddle River participated in the event.

The Oakland-Franklin Lakes Rotary Club sponsored the 14th annual Rainbow Day and helped run the event alongside staff and students of Mahwah's Region 1 summer enrichment program last month.

The exceptional needs students from Region 1 include children from Franklin Lakes, Oakland, Mahwah, Glen Rock, Ramsey, Ho-Ho-Kus and Upper Saddle River.

“The children look forward to this summer event every year. It is a special time for them to all gather together and enjoy themselves," said Director of Special Services for Mahwah Township Public Schools Lisa Rizzo. "We cannot thank the Rotary Club enough for their continued support.”

The 143 students and 58 staff members enjoyed a huge lunch of chicken fingers, watermelon, juice boxes and sandwiches provided by Shop Rite of Oakland, were treated to a ‘Moon Walk’ ride, a magic show and a special visit from Captain America.  All of this sponsored by Club of Oakland-Franklin Lakes.

“What we enjoy the most is seeing all the smiling faces on the children and the appreciation of the staff,” said Herb Stride who, along with his wife Annette, began the annual summer tradition back in 1998.
