Spirit of Christmas Food Drive Helps the Neediest
Collected goods to be donated to the Center for Food Action.
The Mahwah Municipal Alliance and Mahwah Police Department sponsored the second annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive on Sunday, Dec. 23, at Mahwah Police Headquarters.
The MMA was assisted by athletes from the winter wports programs at Mahwah High School. Throughout the day residents and athletes donated non-perishables food items which will be donated to the Center for Food Action in Mahwah. More than four vans full of food were collected and delivered to the CFA. The participation of student athletes demonstrates the commitment athletes and students have to helping our community.
According to MMA President Carolyn Blake, “the response from the community was far better than expected. The event was only two days before Christmas and with everyone’s busy schedule we didn’t know what to expect, but the community and student turnout was tremendous. It is good to see our high school students participate in such a worthy event.”
As residents delivered the food students together with athletes boxed the food, labeled the boxes and today several college students who were home for the winter break volunteered to help deliver the food to the CFA.
Blake also thanked Mahwah High School Principal John Pascale and Athletic Director Roger Pelletier for their support.
