The Committee to Stop Mahwah Mall, a resident group that has a pending lawsuit against the township and has been fighting the development of a 600,000 sq. foot shopping center at the International Crossroads site for over a year, is hosting two fundraisers to help pay for lawyer fees.
Last May, the CSMM sued the township in an attempt to invalidate an ordinance allowing for the shopping center to be built on the Crossroads property at the intersection of Routes 17 and 287. The hearing on the suit is set for next week.
According to CSMM member Susan Chin, the group has already raised over $15,000 in donations. However, she said the group still needs to raise about $13K to cover its legal expenses.
Two local restaurants are helping the Committee get to its goal.
Thursday night, Mahwah Bar & Grill is hosting a fundraiser between 5 and 11 p.m. 10 percent of all food sales during those hours will be donated to the CSMM.
Next Tuesday, Sept. 18, between 5 and 11 p.m., Roxanne’s will donate 30 percent of all sales to customers who identify themselves as Stop Mahwah Mall supporters to the group. The enclosed porch at the back of the restaurant will be reserved for CSMM supporters.
“We always want to be a place that supports all aspects of the Mahwah community however we can,” Craig Kunisch, owner of MB&G said.

Hats off to both restaurants! I am sure they are concerned with the possible impact of the proposed mall.Anyone concerned with the mall should show their support by attending. See you there!

yes, we eat out frequently, friendly with owners, asked what they thought of mall, many said worried if people go shopping and eat there, and if kids hang out at movies (10plex) and eat at mall. instead of main st theater. a few mentioned should do a restaurant week . the group should contact all the restaurants

Hank - the places HAVE to be packed at peak times - to be able to afford the slow days/nights/times when front and kitchen staff, and rent an energy cost, still has to be paid. People spend a lot of time (not just when the restaurant is open) without striking it rich.
It only takes a few percentage points of reduced business to turn a profitable place into a loss. So I can understand why local eateries are worried about patrons being siphoned off to a different "hang-out".

River Palm is shaking in their boots?
Lotito's /wycoff bakery worried?
I would love to see:
Polish Restaurant
German Restaurant
Outback
Cruise ship style buffet
Polynesian restaurant
Micro brewery
Crab House

--Hank, the fam & i iust had a lovely time at MBG with many other patrons. my mushroom swiss burger was spot-on and the sam adams draft helped me be even funnier than i already am. i see you are 'crossing them off your list' (fyi, that sounds a little self-important)... i hope the owners are not wailing in the street.
--i'm looking forward to Roxanne's next week! your argument is interesting though that we should build a 650,000 sq ft mall in the hopes of maybe getting an outback or a real tacky seafood joint with nets on the ceiling. on the other hand, maybe your idea's not so healthy... and is as terribly lonely as it sounds .

Wonderful support from two very popular local restaurants! The proposed mall would feature many eating places, none of which would give or get the the same community feeling, loyalty, and support as MB&G and Roxanne's. If you want to stay true to Mahwah's roots and support two great local business (vs, for example, the generic Appleby's, Chili's, fast food, etc., that populate malls and that would adversely affect our local restaurants) come out tonight and on Tuesday for great food, fun, and a cause that will help keep Mahwah, Mahwah. High school parents, bring the family before back to school night and dinner is done!

Why is it never mentioned on Mahwah Patch (Jessica?) that Suffern has already settled their suit in favor of the mall by paying Suffern's extortion of $300,000 ??? That should give Ms CHIN a clear signal about where this project is actually going. You don't waste 300K on something that's not going anywhere.

Perhaps the truth is larger than your one sentence . Ronald Reagan tripled our national debt in the name of your sacred lowered taxes. George Bush (W) made billionaires way richer by sending the industrial war machine into Iraq (where there were no WMDs); he bankrupted America hence raising your taxes (emotional as well as financial). Mitt Romney began life as a multimillionaire and is now obscenely opportunistic with his callously enlarged wealth (i think he has your vote to come thru for you). And a bunch of Tea-Sippers signed a silly ruse of a pact (constructed by another blower of billionaires) to never raise taxes, and you are one of the dupes who again believes it's for you. Consider that the "either/or absolutes" are false, and a perilous investment. Perhaps you and i are no less of a fraud than Barack or JP. Perhaps we all need to start thinking differently. Your anger is not more special than any others... and anger is an 'emotion of the moment' designed to pass thru us while accomplishing a task. Anger was not designed by God to be held onto like religious faith; that just grows us cancer.

Our personal contributions of spare time and smallish monies are dwarfed by huge corporate donations. Our elected democrat/republican officials are beholden to those larger funds, and so for us they can only dilute & diffuse the other's attempts to address our demands for reform. This is the best we get from two political parties who are no longer designed to deal with us as society... We haven't the might to deal with the massive monsters we created (i.e. wall street, banks, AIGs & Enrons, energy cartels, the industries of war, etc..), within our vitiated political system. It will take time to improve what we have compromised with mistakes and complacencies. But this won't come by intractable positionings that dismiss 50% of the population, or Supreme Court rulings like "Citizens United; this i can guarantee. We've all heard the bitching; who's got a patient answer?

JP until you reveal yourself keep your mouth shut. People like you make this a bad place to exchange ideas because you resort to name calling. You do not have any respect here.I have asked you several times to meet face to face to have a conversation about this issue however you hide behind your computer and two letters. I do not always agree with Hank but at least I have spoken with him face to face and have had an enjoyable time in doing so. JP if you were face to face with someone you would be the first to clam up and not call anyone any name. The one thing you do do well is make the rest of us realize we are the sane ones on this sight.

Sorry JP I missed that lesson when did it become the norm of two wrongs do not make a right. When you stand up at a meeting and show your tooth and nail devotion for the mall maybe then you will get some respect. Until then just (quietly) Shhhh. If you did not have this sight you would never be heard in regards to your love of the mall because you cant step to the front of the class. Remember Shhh.

Question... Do any of the anti mall people frequent the Ramapo Center strip mall ..on Ridge & MacArthur?? Get coffee at dunkin donuts...eat the great sushi at Nagoya...eat at Mahwah pizza?? Hmmm? Do you consider that supporting local business??? Well guess who owns that MALL.... The same corporation that will develop Crossroads. That mall will be built...just a matter of time.
