Swift Response Prevents House Fire, Authorities Say
Mahwah FD knocked down brush fire likely caused by a lightning strike
Mahwah firefighters responded to a brush fire that authorities say could have easily gotten out of hand if not for a swift response.
A fire broke out in the brush and bushes behind a Victoria Lane home at around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Assistant Fire Chief Brad Stio said. The fire was “probably caused by lightning,” he said.
The swift-moving fire “ignited almost up to the deck” at the rear of the house, Stio said. “It could have [easily] turned into a structure fire but Company 4 arrived quickly to knock down the fire.”
Mahwah Fire Companies 1, 2 and 4 responded to the blaze.
Earlier during the thunderstorms, the FD and MPD responded to a transformer fire on Route 17, also likely caused by lightening.
