UPDATE: Student In Monday's Head-On Collision Dies

Police say the cause of the accident may be difficult to determine

A Ramapo College student who was involved in a serious accident on Route 202 Monday died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Patterson Wednesday, Mahwah police chief James Batelli said. "We just received notice that Jacob Halle has passed away," Batelli told Patch Wednesday afternoon.

Halle, of New City, New York, was a student at Ramapo College who's car swerved into oncoming traffic in an accident on Route 202 Monday morning, police said. He was revived by emergency responders at the scene of the accident and was airlifted to the hospital Monday. “He never regained consciousness,” Batelli said.

According to Batelli, the cause of the accident is still under investigation. However, police are unsure whether or not the cause will ever be determined. “Without any statement from Mr. Halle it may be difficult to conclusively determine why he swerved into the other lane,” he said. The accident is being investigated by Mahwah Police Captain Robert Sinnaeve, a certified accident reconstructionist.

The driver of the other car, Kerri Ende, 43, of Oakland, has been released from the hospital, Batelli said. She is “doing fine,” he said.
