Candidates Take On Crossroads Referendum
How would each react to referendum outcomes?
At Wednesday night's "Meet The Candidates" event, sponsored by the library board, the three candidates running for mayor and two running for a position on the town council answered the following question:
"How would you react if the referendum vote on November 8 comes back with most votes opposed to the Crossroads Town Center? What realistic steps would you take if this is the outcome? And, conversely, how would you react if the referendum vote on November 8 comes back in favor of the CTC? How would you realistically react if that is the outcome?"
On November 8, residents will vote on their feelings about the "Crossroads Town Center," a controversial shopping center development. The non-binding referendum on the issue was added to the November ballot after a group of residents, the Committee to Stop Mahwah Mall, presented the council with a petition asking for one. The petetion was signed by over 2,000 registered Mahwah voters.
