Shoes or No Shoes?

Have you ever tried barefoot running? I have read many articles on this subject - some for it some against it. Up until today, I have always run in sneakers. Last week I took a little vacation, it was nice running on the beach - with shoes of course.

When I returned home, I seemed to be missing one shoe! One very important running shoe that had my orthodic in it was missing!!! When you're in the middle of training for a half marathon, it's never the right time for new orthodics or shoes, what now? How will i continue my training? After calling the hotel in a panic, looking for my sneaker,  I decided today was the day to try a short barefoot run.

So, that is what I did. I put on my running gear and headed over to Continental Soldiers field. Off with the socks and shoes, and headed to the turf.  It was strange at first. I felt kind of like a T-REX clomping down the field. But once I got my stride right, and speed, it felt pretty good. It was very liberating!

My achilles tendons ached a bit in the beginning,  but when I got warmed up, they felt good. Tomorrow will be the true test of how I feel.  When I returned home there was a message on the answering machine from the hotel, "we found your shoe!!"

I cannot say I am "hooked" on  the idea of barefoot running,  but I will definatly shed my socks and shoes again in the near future.

Have you ever gone for a barefoot run??

You are stronger than you think!

Hi Chris--speaking of barefoot and Continental Soldiers Park--couldn't help but tell you that we (Field of Creams Cafe at Continental Soldiers Park) just got in a delicious new Hershey's ice cream flavor: "Bear foot Brownie" ..and when you do get your shoes on...you might also try another delicious flavor: "Muddy Sneakers"!
