Arden Jewelers is asking for community members' input about what types of jewels they’d like to see in the store
Mahwah is poised to get a new jewelry store in the next few weeks, and the owner says he’d like feedback from the community on what jewels locals are looking for. Arden Tirpanciyan, a Paramus native who graduated from Ramapo College, said he’s worked for most of his life in his family’s wholesale jewelry business in NYC. Last year, he decided he wanted to explore a different aspect of the business. “I really wanted to go into business for myself, and I like the idea of getting that direct connection with the customer,” Tirpanciyan said. "Plus, jewelry is my passion." When deciding where to open his first store, Arden & Co. Jewelers Diamond and Watch Boutique, Tirpanciyan said Mahwah kept jumping out to him as a perfect place. “I think …

New Snap Fitness owner says he is excited to ‘come home’ to Bergen County
Though Eric Stillwachs has about 20 years of experience in the fitness industry, this spring marks the first time that he actually owns his own gym. Eric officially took over the Snap Fitness franchise location in the A&P Shopping Plaza this February. So far, he says the experience as a gym owner has been, “amazing. We have such great members and the community has been wonderful. It doesn’t feel like work." Stillwachs, who grew up in Fair Lawn but now lives in Queens, said he choose the Mahwah location when looking for a gym to buy because it felt like “coming home. Plus, this is a great location, and the gym is coming up on it’s five year anniversary, so everything is still new and fresh.” Stillwachs said he spent almost 20 years working …

If you prefer diesel-powered cars, this is the 5 Cars for you.
"When you grow up you'll play with diesel instead of gas!" That's a phrase I have seen tossed around a lot on online car discussion boards. It appears those who drive diesel-fueled vehicles are sold on the concept. Going diesel has pros and cons for drivers: In the negative column, diesel fuel is more expensive than conventional gasoline. On the whole, it has less horsepower, meaning that diesel cars aren't quite as speedy in the top end. Cars that use diesel fuel often are noisier than those running regular petrol, though that is improving as modern diesel engines are becoming more refined and quiet. And the fourth con is all about logistics: Diesel simply isn't as available as regular gas. But there are advantages to diesel fuel: A …

For several days, the restaurant will change the name of its 'New Jersey Burger' and donate to the One Fund.
Garden Staters have Jersey pride, but for a few days next month, one borough restaurant will be changing the name of one of its Jersey burgers as a way to show the state’s solidarity with Boston. Smashburger, which has 13 locations in Northern NJ – including one on Route 17 North in Ramsey – announced Tuesday it temporarily change the name of its “New Jersey Burger” to the “Boston Burger,” as a way to raise money for the city still reeling from terrorist bombings last week. From May 1 – 3, the name of the burger will be changed, and $1 from every Boston Burger sold will be donated to the Boston One Fund. The fund, set up by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino provides donated money to the families most …

If Mahwah High School students want to have a day at Moe’s Southwest Grill dedicated to them, they need to take to Facebook. The Moe’s in Mahwah is running a ‘Burrito Day High School Competition’ on its Facebook page. The contest pits 10 area high schools against one another. The school that gets the most votes by April 30 will have a day this May dedicated to students from the school. According to Moe’s Manager Matt Marciniak, students from whichever high school gets the most votes will be able to pick a day in May, show their student ID at Moe’s on that day, and get $2 burritos. Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno was in the township Monday to help welcome the planned 195,000-square-foot corporate campus to New Jersey
Dozens of corporate officers met with local and state politicians to officially break ground on a new headquarters that is planned to open in Mahwah in 2014. According to officials from Dress Barn, and its parent company Ascena – which owns and operates 3,800 stores across the country – the company felt the old Footstar building on Macarthur Boulevard would be the perfect spot for the company to call its new home. Dress Barn’s execs, NJ Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno and Mahwah Mayor Bill Laforet donned hardhats and held golden shovels Monday morning to ceremonially break ground at the site, which has already started undergoing the company’s planned $38.5 million renovation of the space. “It just felt like this could be our own little …

If Uncle Sam gave you a sweet refund, here are five ways to spend it on a great new ride.
If you're like many people, you've done your duty by the tax man and have a refund check sitting in your hands. If you're the average refund recipient, you have just under $3,000 to play with, according to Bargaineering.com. And of course, being a good American, you plan to use the cash to boost the local economy, right? Well, being that this is a column concerning cars, what do you think we'd suggest you do with that windfall? This week's 5 Cars suggests grabbing a muscle car. What's that? According to Merriam-Webster, it's one of "a group of American-made two-door sports coupes with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving." We're talking a huge, honkin' V6 or V8 engine, rear-wheel drive, something you'd imagine Fonzie …
