There was a lot of red on hand at the Mahwah Senior Center on Thursday, and a lot of smiles too. As part of the center’s monthly luncheon program, which has taken place since 2003, the center hosted a Valentine’s Day luncheon.  The event included a special musical performance by Joel Zelnik and Francine Evans, entitled The Lady Sings the Rat Pack. “This is probably the most important place for some of our seniors who are widowed,” said senior center coordinator Susanne Small. “We have a large group of seniors who come to the activities and be part of the community.”  The room was full of …

Like so many Bergen County seniors, Irwin had a slew of questions that were very unsettling to him as he was about to retire. “How would I use my time? I am married, so…

We try to provide help in navigating this problem,” she said. The tax-aide program, conducted by trained AARP representatives, will be available to anyone over the age of 60, by appointment only. Tax meetings can be set up Fridays, Feb…
The burden would be back on seniors to cover the high costs of certain prescription drugs if Congress repeals the health care reform law, according to Sen. Frank Lautenberg. “A vote in favor of repealing the health reform law is a vote in favor of bringing back the donut hole that has emptied the pockets of our seniors,” Lautenberg said Tuesday. The House began debating the repeal of the health care law today and is expected to take a vote by the end of the week. When the Health Care Reform Act was passed into law last March, part of the legislation addressed what is commonly referred to as …
