Budget Mondays 9/9/2013

Monday – 9/9/2013

Before we start…I am happy to announce that my new book is available on both Amazon and in the Kindle store. Check out “A Fresh Pair of Eyes – Personal Financial Planning.”

It’s Monday – a painful day for most people, yours truly included. Sometimes it is made even more painful as we remember just how much money we ended up spending over the weekend.

Budget

It’s one word that can make people cringe, angry and sad all at the same time, a rare occurrence indeed. There are plenty of reasons for this – people are told at work that their budgets are being cut, their ideas cannot be funded because they are not in the budget, and in our personal life, our budgets don’t usually quite match up to our desires.

It is now officially football season. I know that the season “officially” started last Thursday, but yesterday was the first “Football Sunday” of the year, and I know a lot of people (yours truly included) are excited for the upcoming season. Football parties, and parties in general, go hand-in-hand with football season as well as the autumn season. No matter how much you love your team and love football, the reality is that hosting parties can be expensive. Let’s take a look at a few ideas that can help you throw great football parties all season without breaking the bank

Only buy what your guests like. If no one you are inviting likes pepperoni pizza, why would you order it? Deals on “meat-lovers” or “double deep dish” items are great, but if they aren’t going to be eaten you have just wasted your hard-earned money. If you order and buy what your guests will like, not much should go to waste.

Have people chip in. You are giving them the venue, i.e., a large TV and comfortable furniture, to enjoy the game and hang out. If everyone chips in with either $5-10, or contributes some of the food items, the overall cost of hosting the football party is much lower for you, and you can host more of them.

Only invite people who like football. Sometimes, as the host, there might be pressure to invite the football person and their significant other, even if that person does not really like football. This might seem like a common sense idea, but is oftentimes not followed. In addition to costing more due to the increased number of people, these people most likely aren’t having fun.

These are parties, everyone should have fun – and it doesn’t mean you need to break the bank.

Enjoy the season!
