The Games People Play

Thoughts on the past week in Giants, Nets, HockeyRutgers, David Wright and more

It has been an eventful week in our area sports landscape since last we met so here are some ideas that I have:

ITEM- NY GIANTS RESURFACE

It seemed that apparently the G-Men needed the bye week more than we thought.  Big Blue returned and ripped the Green Bay Packers 38-10.  The offensive line was much better, Eli had an renewed zip on the ball and threw TD passes and, most importantly, the pass rush was restored and refreshed. Osi had his best game of the year. He is desperately needed for the next 6 weeks.  After beating up Aaron and the Packers, Big Blue takes on RGIII and the Deadskins in DC on MNF...I do remain concerned about Justin Tuck's lack of production.

ITEM-BROOKLYN BEATS NEW YORK

In a game that had to be rescheduled due the the tragedy of Hurricane Sandy, the Brooklyn Nets beat the New York Knicks at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.  It was a spirited contest and the Nets youth outlasted the Knicks experience.  New York played without Jason Kidd who might be their MVP so far this season.  It is rare and refreshing to have two NBA teams be 10-4 at this point in the season so lets enjoy it while it lasts.

ITEM-NO HOCKEY YET

Garry Bettman is overseeing his third work stoppage in about 5 years.  This is a disgrace to the sport, the fans, and the players.  He should resign.  Hockey may have a tough time surviving if the schedule is not resumed by January 1.

ITEM-RUTGERS LOSES TO LOUISVILLE IN THE BIG EAST EXIT BOWL

Both teams are leaving the Big East, Rutgers to the Big 14 and Louisville to the ACC.  The Scarlet Knights blew their last chance at winning an important football game for a while as the Cards rallied from a 14-3 deficit to win 20-17 and get a good bowl bid.  Moving to the Big Ten was a no brainer for Rutgers, but with it come a few years of suffering as Michigan, Ohio State etc make their way to Piscataway.

ITEM-METS SIGN DAVID WRIGHT

I guess this is a good move, the Mets knew they'd have to overpay and they did.  I just wonder how much better this makes the team than if they were to add 3 other players with this money....I mean $138 million dollars?!

ITEM-JETS BART SCOTT PICKS FIGHTS WITH FANS

Listen Bart if the Jets charge people thousands of dollars for the privilege of seeing how far you and your team have regressed and then charge hundreds of dollars for tickets and $15 per beer yanno what?  SHUT UP!
