WHEN ALL THE LAUGHTER DIED IN SORROW

WHEN ALL THE LAUGHTER DIED IN SORROW……….

This weekend marks the return of our summertime favorites to battle as Major League Baseball returns from its All Star Break to regular season play.  At press time neither the Yankees or the Mets are winning their respective divisions and while it doesn’t appear likely that either local team will be in post season play it is kind of ironic that both teams look at the rest of their seasons differently

The Metropolitans are buouyed of an 8-2 homestand and although they are still 5 games out and 7 below .500 they feel they are in the pennant race.  Without question the Mets are reaping the benefits of excellent and young starting pitching.  What continues to confound and frustrate their fans though is the inability to get the game winning hit and certainily a lack of offensive power.  As the season winds to a close it will be interesting to see what path GM Sandy Alderson takes with his club.  Clearly with getting Harvey back next year the team will be overloaded with starting pitching, and just as clearly the team will have a pronounced need of offense.  Does Alderson deal one of more of his young pitchers for a big time stud bat that will make a difference?  It says here that he will have to but only after ending a frustrating year without a big stick in his lineup,

Conversely the Yankees are battling to stay alive and just have to wonder if they will have enough players if they do.  The Bronx Bombers are battling a curious rush of injuries and it causes one to wonder if the breakdowns continue due to over exposure, even pitchers with pitch conts can be battled off this way.  The fact of the matter is although the 5 pitchers expected to provide the lions share from the Yankees mound has been reduced to 1 the Yankees starting pitching has not been that bad.  The Bombers are floundering around .500 because the middle of their lineup does not hit at all anymore and nobody except Texiexra is hitting homeruns.  The end result is a team that pitches well for around 5 innings then finds a way to lose games in extra innings if Mc Cann and Beltran don’t come around the Yankees can begin planning for next year

HERES WHY YOU HAVE TO WATCH TIGER WOODS PLAY NO MATTER WHAT

On Thursday’s opening round of the Open Championship, Tiger bogeyed his first 2 holes of major play this year.  He rebounded great to approach 18 with a minus 3.  It was on 18 where I saw him hit a cut 5 wood to go across the fairway and down towards the green,,, a mere 75 yards left.  Tiger hit that ball an amazingly 275 yards with the cut but he ball landed in a greenside bunker.  Tiger climbed into the bunker, leaned on his front foot had his back foot out of the green and hit an awesome explosion shot to about 6 feet from the hole.  That is why I watch Tiger all the time ----you never know what you’re gonna get but often tmes you are going to see something y different and his talents will never be duplicated
