Mahwah Club to Host 'HerStory' Panel Tuesday

The following was submitted to Patch by Girls Learn International - Mahwah Chapter.

The Mahwah High School chapter of Girls Learn International (GLI), introduced to the school in early 2013 by MHS student and current GLI president Mara Senchak, is proud to be presenting “HerStory,” the club’s upcoming women’s panel event.

Debuting on March 4th at 7:30 p.m. in the high school library, HerStory will feature a selection of  bright, ambitious, outspoken Bergen County women who have battled gender stigmas as working, mothering, and enterprising females.

Women from positions in such vocational areas as marketing, law, and corporate management are to discuss their triumphs and travails, their ambitions and their limitations, in hopes of illustrating a contemporary understanding of feminist issues such as the oppressive “glass ceiling” and the subordination of female professionals.

Some confirmed speakers include: Ms. Mazzola, editor of the Mahwah Patch; Ms. Skaflestad, who works in marketing for Bloomberg and previously worked for the P&G brands; and Mrs. Cohen, an established attorney.

In an interview with Mara Senchak, she zealously shared, “What I am most excited to hear about are the success stories of these women. Yes, challenge is part of many a working woman’s success, but it’s never the whole story.” Indeed, HerStory hopes to highlight both the forces that work against and those that work for women pursuing eminence in the workplace.

In effect, the event will be one of hope, assurance, and inspiration for men and women, teens and parents, the old and the young - anyone and everyone with an eagerness to expand their awareness of 21st-century feminist concerns.

And, of course, GLI welcomes all MHS students, faculty, and friends to attend the HerStory sensation - please save the date!
