VFW and Home Depot team up with AmeriCorps

Taking a break, members of the National Civilian Community Corps and a local Mahwah family made preparations for a Home Depot sponsored paint project. The home belongs to the family of a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of Mahwah’s Veterans of Foreign War Post 7124 and the support of Mahwah’s Home Depot, the home of a local veteran’s family recently received a new coat of paint in many of the rooms inside the home. Commander Gary Montroy, Adjutant Jerry Ruud and Navy veteran Jack Gardner worked out the details of the project with the home owner and members of the Home Depot staff. The National Civilian Community Corps, a part of AmeriCorps, also participated by preparing the rooms for the new coat of paint. Once all of the paint colors were selected and mixed, the wall preparations began and within days, the new colors were on the walls and the bedrooms, kitchen, living room and hallway came back to life. Projects like this one are just one way in which the VFW, Americorps, and Home Depot reach out to the members of the community. For more information about these three organizations, go to:
