FD Blood Drive Sunday Will Honor Late Member

Remember to bring some canned food items with you to donate to the Center for Food Action

Sunday, Mahwah Firefighters will honor one of their fallen members with the annual Company One Blood Drive in honor of Mike Drozd.

Drozd, a Mahwah firefighter and fire inspector, died in a 2008 accident. According to his wife, Pam, the FD renamed the blood drive that year to honor Mike.

“Mike was a big blood donor, so this is a good way to help people and honor his memory,” Pam said.

The blood collected at the drive will benefit Community Blood Services in Paramus.

Residents are also asked to drop off non-perishable food items to be donated to the Center for Food Action in Mahwah.

Drozd said the event usually draws a good mix of regular blood donors, and first timers. The event generally collects around 35 pints of blood, she said.

Qualifications for donation, which include weighing at least 110 pounds and being in good health, can be found here.

The Blood Drive and CFA Food Drive will be held Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Company 1 Fire House on Miller Road.
