First 'Fight for Frank' Fundraiser This Week

Group is working to help pay medical expendes for a 34-year-old Mahwah High grad diagnosed with a severe form of brain cancer earlier this year

Last month, locals started Fighting for Frank. Now, a Mahwah restaurant is giving residents a way to help.

‘Fight for Frank’ was set up to help Frank Chamberlin, who friends say was the picture of fitness and health when he was diagnosed with a severe form of brain cancer earlier this year.

Chamberlin, who works at a financial services firm, played football at Mahwah High School, and upon his 1996 graduation went on to play for Boston College, and for five years in the NFL – for the Tennessee Titans, Cincinnati Bengals and Houston Texans.

The 34-year-old was diagnosed with anaplastic astrocytoma (Grade III Glioma) in January. Chamberlin underwent surgery that partially removed the tumor, but was left with ongoing seizures and significant speech impairment. He has since been undergoing treatments in Germany.

The fundraising entity was set up to help Chamberlain and his wife, who now live in Wyckoff with their three young daughters, pay for travel and medical expenses. So far, the group has collected thousands of dollars through online donations. But, it is still working toward its ultimate goal of collecting $200,000.

The Mahwah Bar & Grill will host the first ‘Fight for Frank’ restaurant fundraiser this Thursday, Dec. 13, from 5-10 p.m. The restaurant is donating 10% of all food sales to fightforfrank.org.
