Honor Fallen Marine Tuesday by Displaying American Flag

Staff Sgt. Joseph D'Augustine, a Waldwick native, was killed in action on March 27 in Afghanistan.

The Bergen County Freeholder Board requests that residents display an American flag at their homes, on their cars, or on their lapel this Tuesday, May 1, in remembrance of Staff Sgt. Joseph D'Augustine, who paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country in Afghanistan last month.

D'Augustine, a 29-year-old explosive ordinance disposal technician and 2001 graduate of Waldwick High School, was killed on March 27 while conducting combat operations in the Sangin district of Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

D'Augustine had already served two tours of duty in Iraq and was in the process of serving his second tour in Afghanistan. He had been expected to return home in mid-April for his sister's wedding.
