Transformer Transport Snarls Traffic on Franklin Turnpike

O&R transformer was destined for NY.

Traffic was snarled along Franklin Turnpike Sunday as a utility company transported equipment through Mahwah.

According to a Nixle alert from the Mahwah Police Department, Orange & Rockland and its parent company, Con Edison, were transporting a new transformer to Ramapo, NY.

The new machinery, meant to replace a failed transformer, traveled through Mahwah at about 1 p.m. Sunday, the alert said.

Police alerted locals that the slow-moving cargo would cause traffic back-ups along the entire Mahwah length of the roadway.
