Grammy Winner Opening Berrie Center Season

Arturo O'Farrill Quintet performance is Friday.

The 2013-14 Berrie Center Performing Arts season at Ramapo College kicks off with a quintet performance featuring a Grammy Award winner.

Arturo O'Farrill is a Latin Jazz pianist and composer. The musician, known best for forming the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, is a three-time Grammy nominee, and in 2009 won the Best Latin Jazz Album Grammy for the Orchestra’s Second Album, Song for Chico.

O’Farrill, who is the son of the late renowned composer Chico O'Farrill, has been commissioned by major performance spaces and organizations, like Meet the Composer, The Big Apple Circus, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Philadelphia Music Project, Symphony Space, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, and the NY State Council on the Arts. And Friday, he will be playing Mahwah.

The The Arturo O’Farrill Quintet will see the headliner on piano, and will feature Chilean singer and songwriter Claudia Acuña. 

“We are so thrilled to have this opportunity to present Arturo, Claudia and these ensembles,” Stephanie Chaiken, Interim Director of the Berrie Center, said in a release about the event.
