'That's So Raven' Dad's Stand-Up Act Coming to Mahwah

Rondell Sheridan says his comedy routine is a bit raunchier than his Disney Channel persona might lead fans to believe.

The actor and comedian who is perhaps best known for playing the father of Raven Symone’s character in the Disney Channel show That’s So Raven is coming to Mahwah, but Rondell Sheridan says locals shouldn’t expect to see Chef Victor on stage this Saturday night.

“My act is not Bob Saget, but it definitely isn’t That’s So Raven, either,” Sheridan said of the stand-up comedy routine he is planning to perform at Ramapo College’s Berrie Center this weekend.

“It’s really for an adult audience because it’s about getting older,” the 55-year-old told Patch.

“It’s a reality check on life, basically.”

Though audiences may be most familiar with Sheridan’s work on what he calls “Kid shows,” like Raven, its spin-off Cory in the House, and Nickelodeon’s Cousin Skeeter, the comedian has racked up a pretty impressive stand-up comedy resume over his 30-year career. Sheridan’s credits include performances on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and several Comedy Central specials.

“I never stopped doing stand-up,” Sheridan said. “That’s my bread and butter.”

Being an adult on a “kid show,” Rondell said, was a unique experience.

“We filmed 100 episodes, and maybe I’ve watched 30 of them,” he said of his work on Raven.

“It was a fun role, but it’s more fun to be a kid on a show like that. The show was really about the kids on it.”

But, Sheridan said he did enjoy working with the show-starring kids.

“Raven is phenomenal. After the show, when she was on Broadway [in Sister Act], I went to go see Raven, and she was fantastic. She’s really talented.”

Though he said he’s not in the show’s demo audience, “filming it was goofy and fun. Every show like that I’ve done has been a lot of fun.”

Sheridan said his work as an actor, comedian, and director informs his comedy, on stage and off.

Saturday’s show is set for 8 p.m. at the Berrie Center. Tickets are $24 to $30, and may be purchased over the phone at (201) 684-7844 or online.
