Custom Frame Shop Fills Vacant Storefront

New Miller Road location will allow shop to focus on framing instead of art sales; Customers can save big bucks on art during closeout sale at shop's old location in Ramsey

A new frame shop just opened in Mahwah, but residents may already be familiar with its work.

opened at 9 Miller Road Monday. The custom framing shop moved from just down the street – it was previously located inside the Interstate Shopping Plaza in Ramsey.

“We want to focus our business on custom framing,” Jennifer Rhee, whose parents, William and Grace, have owned and operated Touchstone for the past 15 years, said. “Previously, we sold a lot of artwork, but now that we are moving more toward framing, we didn’t need the huge store [in the Interstate Shopping Plaza].”

Touchstone moved into the store left vacant by Fantasy Games and Hobbies, which moved to the other side of Miller Rd.

“We like this location because it’s close to our old location, and convenient for a lot of the clients that we already have in Mahwah, Ramsey, Suffern and surrounding towns,” Rhee said.

The Rhee family, who is originally from Korea but has lived in Leonia for the past 20 years, does all of the framing on-premises. They work with interior designers, galleries, and corporate, business and residential customers. Touchstone frames photos, art, mirrors and other items, and mounts keepsakes, like a team jersey or childhood memento, in shadowboxes.

“We work with our customers to find a frame that fits their taste, piece and space,” Rhee said.

Their old shop, at 87 Interstate Shopping Center in Ramsey, will remain open until July 21. Until then, customers looking for art pieces can stop by for big savings - a storewide closeout sale on the artwork is offering prices of up to 80 percent off through its closing date.
