New BBQ Joint Plans To Open In July

Owner of Nonna's Pizza plans new business venture

If you’ve passed by the Gateway Center on Franklin Turnpike lately, you may have noticed new signage that sparked your interest.

“Coming Soon: Shake and Sizzle.” What does that mean?

According to Pete B., the owner and operator of , his new venture, Shake and Sizzle, will offer BBQ dishes with unique menu options.

“We are going to have everything from burgers and ribs to Portuguese Chicken,” he said.

Pete says he plans on opening the new place – located just a few shops down from his pizzeria restaurant – sometime in July.

“It is painted, but we are still waiting on some things, like furniture, until it is totally finished,” he said.

The owner also says he is working out some grand opening perks for Mahwah residents.

I had the 1/4 chicken with ribs and fries last night. It was not very good. The portions for the price were very skimpy. The chicken leg was as big as a chicken wing and the thigh was just as small. The two ribs were like rubber. Had a very hard time eating them. The cornbread was very dry. I would recommend Chicken and Rib Crib down the street! The owner of Nonna's should stick to the Italian stuff, which is very good! They have some of the best pizza, pepperoni rolls and calzones in the area.

My wife and I went tonight to try this new place. Truthfully, it was a disaster. It wasn't crowded at all, yet it took over 1/2 hour for our food to come out. And when the food was brought out, they forgot the bacon on the chicken BLT and the side of BBQ wings were brought out as buffalo hot wings. Our shakes (which were excellent) were brought out immediately once we were seated, so then I had to buy a fountain drink because I finished the shake well before food came out. We complained, the owner glanced over at my wife and me, and then basically blew us off. Oh, and they brought out plain (mild) wings with a side of BBQ sauce, not real BBQ flavored wings. The guys they had working there were friendly and apologetic. The shakes were very good, but I would suggest take out or delivery. Food was pretty good though, but certainly not great. Mostly disappointed that the owner just didn't seem to care in his first week open.

Yesterday I decided to try this new place out! I ordered the combo special for $32.95. It was a whole chicken, full order of ribs & 10 wings & 2 sides. I also ordered double mashed potatoes as my sides since they only give you the salads as a side when you're eating in. OMG.. the ribs were so tough that you literally had to tare the meat off hard to get a bite! The ribs were dry, undercooked & were barely room temperature... as if they had been sitting out for several hours! The chicken was no better, the skin & the meat below the skin was overcooked & so dry. Almost like they reheated it several times & then let it sit out till it cooled to room temp & sold it to the next sucker! The wings were the same!! Dry & overcooked & sat to room temperature. I live less then a mile from this place & as soon as I got home I took it all out of the bag. I had to REHEAT everything except the mashed potatoes. Instead of getting the double order of mp they gave me a side order of rice. COLD. It had a strange taste & not in a good way. It was just AWFUL!! then I had to listen to my husband give me crap about $35.00 (w the tax) for this garbage. I threw it all away except for the mashed potatoes! I should have taken it all back & demanded a refund! Live & Learn... I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! Don't know about the milkshakes but from the reviews I'm reading they are supposed to be good. But of course the ice cream is made by Ben & Jerry! Not the cooks or own of this restaurant! Terrible!!

I ordered a half rack w/ 2 sides (fries and veggies) to go. They lost my order, so had to wait a little bit. The seats are very uncomfortable, so I wouldn't want to eat there. Sitting there so long, I saw one of the cooks scratch his nose with his gloved hand. I told one of the cashiers, who apologized. But he didn't go back in the kitchen to ask the guy to wash and change his gloved hand. I also saw one of the servers putting together the knives and forks rolled into a napkins. He kept touching the tip of the knife or fork with his hands. The fries were good. The ribs were good, but didn't come with sauce on them. Hopefully my immune system helped me that day. If I did go again, it wouldn't be for another 6 months. Also, there's a big poster of cows on the wall, tasty cows.

Seriously one of the BEST meals of my life! I decided to eat here for the first time with my girlfriend today, the wait staff behind the counter was super nice. We placed our order, I had gotted the 1/2 rack of ribs with the mash potatos and rice, and my girlfriend the Out West burger. No later than 15 mins or so, we recieved our food. Our waitress was very kind, asking if we needed anything else and if everything was okay. My answer to this: EVERYTHING IS AMAZING! The ribs were pure fall off the bone quality(and they weren't skimpy on the meet either!), the mashed potatos and rices were fresh, and i even stole some of my girlfiend's fries! Honestly some of the best fries I have ever tasted! What's the secret? My girlfriend said her burger was delicious, too! Well Shake & Sizzle, you have yourselves two more regulars!

my first time there i was debating on what to choose from, since there is such a large menu. The boy behind the counter was very helpful in talking to me about my likes and dislikes and helped me decide on the buffalo chicken sandwhich. this turned out to be the best thing i've ever eaten. not to mention the fries are out of this world. -all at an awesome price- the service and manager were all very kind and welcoming, i am most defiantly going to tell my friends and family about this place. i love it!

I had a great lunch at Shake and Sizzle today. Sizzle chicken and a shake...delicious! My food came out quickly and everything couldn't have been better. They even have new chairs in the dinning room which were very comfortable. The place had a nice crowd during lunch and I really enjoyed the whole experience. I will 100% be back.

So my parents were in town for the weekend to visit me at college, and I told them about this place and how amazing it was. I told them they HAD to eat there. They immediately loved the color scheme. I told them, "Try the food, it's even better!" They ordered one of the Chicken and Ribs Combos; I switched it up this time and got the Swiss Chicken Sandwich. Again, the man behind the counter, taking my order, was very helpful and informative, answering every question my parents had about the food. My mother is a celiac, which means she cant eat wheat, and the man taking our order helped her craft her meal to her liking. The food came out lightening fast (just like last time). Needless to say the food was amazing, as usual.

I went with my boyfriend for dinner- it was GREAT! I had a grilled chicken sandwich and he had a burger, we both loved our food, and the fries were great. The atmosphere was so cute/perfect for the type of place. Overall we definetly recommend it!
