Bergen County: Garfield, Hackensack, Northvale, Paramus-- October 16, 2013 – Applebee's announced a record $735,000 in funds raised nationwide in support of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) during 2013 and more than $4 million raised since 2005.

This year, more than 700 restaurants around the country, including 40 Applebee’s in New Jersey, contributed to the effort to help cure pediatric cancer. Applebee’s franchisees have supported ALSF for the past nine years.

In its own great showing, on Long Island and in New Jersey, Doherty Enterprises, franchisees of the local Applebee’s restaurants, squeezed out nearly $63,000 to help support ALSF. A portion of the sale of each lemonade sold during the four week initiative along with generous purchases of “paper lemons” by restaurant guests added up to a substantial contribution to the fight against childhood cancer.

“Giving back to the neighborhoods and communities in which we operate is a true tradition of ours and the cause of pediatric oncology is especially meaningful,” said Kevin Coughlin, director of Operations for Doherty’s 40 New Jersey Applebee’s. “Our partnerships with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, allows us make a difference in the lives of so many children and families during a challenging time of their lives.”

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation focuses on encouraging and empowering others, especially children, to raise money and awareness of childhood cancer research for treatments and cures. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) has grown from the front yard of 4-year-old cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott in 2000 to become one of the nation’s leading philanthropic organizations fighting childhood cancer.  For more information on this year’s Alex’s Lemonade Stand Fundraising efforts, visit any New Jersey Applebee’s restaurant.
