Center for Food Action Gets $9K Donation Check

The CFA gave out $3 million worth of food last year

The holiday drives of several local organizations paid off for Mahwah's Center of Food Action. According to a release from the Bergen Highlands/Ramsey Rotary Club this week, the club recently donated a $9,000 check to the CFA.

The Rotary Club, Inserra Supermarkets, the Saddle River Task Force and Friends of CFA all collected donations during the holiday season to contribute to the check, the release said. 

When he accepted the donation at a recent rotary meeting, Director Jim James said the CFA had made significant contributions to the community last year, the release said:

  • It sent out 67,000 food packages in 2012
  • It helped nearly 3,500 victims of Hurricane Sandy in Moonachie and Little Ferry 
  • It supplied food for 10,000 people during Thanksgiving
  • And, the CFA gave away approximately $3 million worth of food last year.

"This donation will be particularly helpful to offset the donation decline that CFA typically sees during the summer months,"  James said in the release.
