DQ Collecting Donations for Family that Lost Home

FD is asking all gift cards be dropped off at the Mahwah Dairy Queen; residents can pick up free ice cream for donating

Anyone wishing to donate gift cards to the Mahwah family who lost its house in a fire Wednesday night can now drop them off at the Dairy Queen in the A&P shopping center on Franklin Turnpike.

The Mahwah Fire Department, which has been organizing collections for the family since the fire, is requesting all donations now be dropped off at the Dairy Queen.

DQ owner Janette Dilascio, who said the she knows the members of the Mann family as customers and “great people,” said she was happy to help. DQ is offering anyone who drops off a donation free ice cream.

Officials are suggesting residents donate the following types of gift cards for the family:

  • If you are planning to drop off a gift card this weekend, Kohl’s. The store is giving the family 30% off all clothing purchases it makes through Monday only. The family can pay with donated gift cards to get the discount.
  • General spend gift cards, like Visa or American Express gift cards
  • Food and local restaurant gift cards
